How are the South East’s schools developing their pupils’ environmental awareness? We talk to four schools about all things eco-friendly.

Reigate St Mary’s, Reigate

How do you teach pupils to be more aware of the impact they have on the environment? Reigate St Mary’s is one of the leading junior schools in the country in developing education for social responsibility (ESR). Headmaster, Marcus Culverwell, has worked with resource provider Plan Bee to create a whole scheme of work which is now being embraced nationally, in all IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) schools. This scheme of work predominantly focuses on environmental education but also on individual and community wellbeing, so that all young people can be socially responsible, giving back to society more than they take from it.
