Mayfield School explains why their premium equestrian facilities offer the ultimate experience for horse-loving pupils
Tell us about horse riding at Mayfield… Located in 75 acres of the beautiful Sussex countryside, Mayfield School has a long tradition of horse riding. We cater for all abilities – from beginners, to those who ride for fun, to those who wish to compete. We have a purpose-built Equestrian Centre on site with stables for 30 horses, as well as an Olympic sized indoor and outdoor sand school.
Can girls who don’t own a horse ride at Mayfield? At Mayfield, we have a Loan Scheme which allows girls to share a horse or pony for the duration of their time at school, allowing them to join in with equestrian activities and to develop their competitive skills through inter-house competitions.
Can complete beginners ride at Mayfield? For girls who are new to riding, we arrange lessons at a local BHS approved Riding Centre, where they will be accompanied by a member of Mayfield Staff. Girls have two activity periods during each school day, in addition to their lessons, where they can pursue extra-curricular activities, including riding.
Tell us about your equestrian team… Our Equestrian Squad regularly competes on the School Equestrian circuit in show jumping, dressage and eventing classes, both as a team and on an individual basis. We hold several national championships titles currently, including National Team Dressage Champions, Inter-County Dressage Team Champions, and National Show Jumping Open Team Champions. A number of riders also compete in British Dressage, Eventing and Show Jumping Classes at regional, national and international level, whilst also studying for a place at university.
