The Learning and Development Team at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate share all their best homework tips
- Before starting, set up your homework space, making sure you have everything you need to hand and that you have limited distractions such as phones and TVs
- Try to complete work two days before it is due to give yourself some flexibility
- Focus on one task at a time, starting with the highest priority task, until it is complete
- Make a timetable for when you are free to do homework, breaking your time into 40-60 minute chunks. Consider other commitments, such as extracurricular clubs, and rule out those times
- Allow short breaks every hour or when you complete your work, whichever is shorter. During breaks do not reach for items which may encourage procrastination such as your phone
- Write a to-do list of all outstanding homework projects and prioritise the list based on when it is due, how important the assignment is, how long it will take and how difficult it might be
- Reward yourself when you’ve completed your work
