Tail-Wagging Event

During a recent visit to Blackheath Prep (part of the Eltham College family of schools), Eltham College Year 10 students lent a hand at a special Guide Dogs event. Blackheath Prep regularly supports a number of charities, including Guide Dogs, and the visit gave pupils the chance to learn more about the organisation. The event was a hit with pupils, who were delighted to meet the dogs and their trainers. A dog‑themed obstacle course, designed and run by the Eltham students, proved especially popular. The Year 10s guided children from Reception through to Year 6 around the course, cheering them on, explaining each challenge and keeping the energy high throughout, showing great leadership skills (and patience). The Young Ones

Following its merger with Tormead School, Rydes Hill Pre-Prep and Nursery School is excited to announce a number of new developments. From Summer 2026, the Nursery will welcome babies from six months old, with new provision for the youngest children in Pips (6-12 months) and Seeds (1-2 years), alongside flexible hours and funded places for families. Refurbishment work has already taken place across the Rydes Hill campus, helping to refresh classrooms and shared spaces while maintaining the school’s warm, familiar feel. Looking ahead, Rydes Hill will expand beyond Year 2 with the introduction of a co-educational prep school. Year 3 will open in September 2027, with additional year groups following each year until the school becomes fully co-educational through to Year 6 by 2030. Together, these developments mark an important chapter for the school, ensuring its welcoming community continues to give children the very best start in their educational journey. Awards & Achievements

Churcher’s Junior School celebrates an outstanding year of achievement with a strong set of results. Pupils secured eight scholarships across a range of disciplines – including six academic awards, one music scholarship and one exhibition. Plus, every Year 6 pupil has been offered a place to progress into Churcher’s Senior School, an impressive outcome in a competitive 11+ year. School leaders say the results highlight the strength of the Junior School experience and the breadth of opportunities available. Meanwhile a Churcher’s College teacher also won a national award! English teacher Mrs Daniel was awarded a Silver Award for ‘Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School’, recognised for her creativity, energy and compassion. She described the recognition as “an incredible honour” and praised the dedication of colleagues supporting pupils every day. Elsewhere at Churcher’s, they have also launched a new student-led podcast. Tea & Toast (inspired by the popular morning tradition) offers a relaxed and authentic insight into school life. Recorded in the Sixth Form Ramshill common room, the podcast features students discussing academic life, friendships, personal growth and memorable experiences, capturing the warm and sociable spirit of the Sixth Form. Search Churcher’s Podcast to find it on Spotify and YouTube, and you can find out more about Churcher’s College at churcherscollege.com

Cultural Collaboration

It’s all going on this spring term at Claremont School. The school’s Clyde and Pyke boarding houses proudly showcase a truly multicultural lifestyle. Students from Asia, Africa, Europe, and even Australia, live together as a united community. This mix teaches tolerance,
open-mindedness, and the tricky art of agreeing on what to eat when everyone’s taste buds are completely different. In a perfect example of multicultural life in action, two Christian students chose to be christened at the local church near Clyde House, while two others observed Ramadan, attending the local mosque to celebrate Iftar. For Chinese New Year, some Chinese students took their boarding friends to London’s Chinatown to share the festivities and enjoy traditional food – a fascinating experience for everyone. These moments are a reminder that different traditions can coexist respectfully and meaningfully. In this boarding house, disagreements rarely last long, while respect, friendship, and shared experiences endure. Living in a multicultural boarding house is more than just sharing a room or a meal. It’s about learning from one another, navigating different perspectives, and appreciating the small differences. In short, it is a global experience under one roof.
