Sevenoaks Prep tell us about their AI initiatives for both staff and students
At Sevenoaks Prep, we have always aimed to be forward-thinking when it comes to integrating new technologies into our educational framework. We have proactively initiated a comprehensive staff training programme to navigate both the benefits and potential concerns of AI in education.
The training aimed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to leverage AI effectively and the results were immediate and impactful: some teachers began incorporating AI into their lesson planning, significantly boosting efficiency. A particularly innovative example came from our languages department who utilised AI image generation to create tailored content for students to describe. This approach not only made learning more interesting but also ensured that students were not exposed to the same images.
Recognising that students would inevitably encounter AI outside the classroom we introduced the ‘Experience AI’ programme for our Year 7 and 8 students. This aimed to demystify AI, explaining its workings, capabilities, and limitations. We believe that educating our students on the correct usage of AI tools is more effective than taking that tool away and teaches them to be responsible and informed. We are committed to staying at the forefront of educational innovation. By embracing AI thoughtfully and proactively, we are preparing our students and staff to navigate an increasingly AI-driven world with confidence and competence.
