We hear from The New Beacon about their extensive and enriching beyond-the-classroom opportunities
Iceland or Paris, Ightham Mote or Wisley, Reculver or Ypres, Italy or Ramsgate?!
At The New Beacon there is no need to choose, 30 trips ran for our boys this year, starting from as young as Reception right through to Year 8 and ranging from field trips to workshops, sports competitions to theatre visits, concerts to tournaments, museum exploration to sailing regattas.
We firmly believe in the benefits of life and learning beyond the classroom, extending the experiences of our boys and fostering independence and self-awareness.
Preparing for a school trip can be challenging, whether a week-long residential or a day trip to Hastings. Some children are nervous at the prospect of being away from familiar
routines but the confidence they gain and the opportunities they experience are immeasurable in their educational value. Social interactions, personal development and a broader perspective on life are just some of the many benefits we see following these trips and that is aside from the ‘actual’ purpose – the delight in picking pumpkins, climbing the Eiffel Tower or swimming in hot springs!
School inspectors cite ‘wide ranging out of classroom activities, including trips’ as examples of outstanding teaching – at The New Beacon we couldn’t agree more!
“the confidence they gain and the opportunities they experience are immeasurable”
