Ashford School tells us about the
Great Work Ethic
When sixth formers start to think about university, inevitably they have to consider potential career directions and life after study. Teenagers with a clear idea about their personality traits, good learning habits and some work experience tend to make better decisions.
According to James Kent, Managing Director of leading brand and digital consultancy Why Ltd, “We look for more than just academic qualifications. We recruit candidates who show initiative, a strong work ethic and high levels of conscientiousness along with creative skills and the ability to work in a team. It’s essential for youngsters to start developing these skills while they are at school.”
Part-time jobs, internships, CCF, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and volunteering all provide pupils with firsthand experiences that boost UCAS covering letters and develop the ‘real-world’ skills so valued by employers. Ashley Grech, Head of Careers at Ashford School says “Pupils that can demonstrate an ability for being reliable and hardworking, build their reputation for being trustworthy. High levels of trust make it easier for employers to offer promotions and in the longer term this is a huge advantage.

Kent College Prep School announces move to become fully Co-ed
Can boys successfully integrate into a traditionally all-girls Prep School? At Kent College Prep School, the answer is a resounding yes. In fact, the process has been so successful that the transition has been accelerated.
Building on the success of its original phased approach to become a co-educational school, Kent College Prep School has recently announced that boys will be welcome to join the two final year groups (Years 5 and 6) from September 2025, to make the Prep School fully co-educational. The decision follows enthusiastic feedback from pupils, parents and staff, who have embraced the new inclusive vision for the school.
To support a smooth transition, the school has enhanced the curriculum and extracurricular provision to ensure it is engaging, inspiring and meets the needs of all children, whilst adding appropriate facilities to ensure that boys are supported in all areas. The curriculum, facilities and outdoor spaces make Kent College Prep a natural and ideal environment for both boys and girls to thrive, both academically and socially.
The presence of boys in the younger years has enriched the Prep School experience for all children, creating a more diverse atmosphere, and the school is looking forward to continuing that into the upper year groups of Prep from September 2025.
