Introducing Ryan Ashford-Smit. He and his wife Victoria, have opened the UK’s first OsteoStrong in Tunbridge Wells, a new way to biohack your way to bone health, posture and strength
What is OsteoStrong?
OsteoStrong is a wellness centre focused on strengthening bones, muscles, and balance in a way that’s safe, quick, and effective. It uses a unique technology called Osteogenic Loading, which enables you to create the right amount of force to stimulate your bones for them to grow stronger naturally. Sessions take about 20 minutes once a week, and there’s no sweating, heavy lifting, or long workouts involved. It’s great for improving bone health, building strength, enhancing posture, and even helping with balance and joint pain. It’s especially beneficial for people with osteoporosis, athletes, and anyone looking to stay strong and active as they age.
How did you get the idea to open OsteoStrong?
My wife and I discovered it while visiting friends, Sharon and Rob in Texas, USA. Sharon had reversed her osteoporosis and Rob had rehabilitated his knee osteoarthritis doing OsteoStrong and this grabbed our attention. We then did our research, visited other centres around the world, and spoke to people who had transformed their lives doing this. We also attended a Tony Robin’s event in Birmingham which featured OsteoStrong. We knew that by bringing this biohacking technology to the UK we could make a positive impact with the growing skeletal health crisis here. In the UK, half of the women and a quarter of men will suffer an osteoporotic fracture in their lifetimes. And half the people who break a hip will die within two years.
What do your sessions involve?
An OsteoStrong session is a guided, 15-20 minute experience once a week. Suitable for all ages and abilities. It uses four specialised machines targeting the legs, upper body, core, and back, with each exercise involving a short, controlled maximum effort.
A session coach is with you the whole time to guide and track your progress. The wellness centre also incorporates other powerful wellness modalities, Red Light Therapy, Compression Boot Therapy, and Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy to enhance results and offer other health benefits. Each session is recorded to closely track progress and results.
“We have already seen clients increasing their bone density and in some cases reversing their osteoporosis”
What results do you see people getting from using OsteoStrong?
We have already seen clients increasing their bone density and in some cases reversing their osteoporosis. Everyone also experiences great gains in strength, with most people 80% stronger in only 12 weeks. As well as big improvements in balance and posture – resulting in clients feeling more confident and energised.
Can you track your progress?
Absolutely, we do four baseline marker tests to get your starting metrics, including an ultrasound heel bone scan. At OsteoStrong we are very results driven and the machines automatically measure your performance each session and generate a weekly repost to closely track your progress.
Do you use it yourself?
Yes, I have osteoarthritis in my left knee, and was struggling to walk a year ago. Today after doing OsteoStrong for 12 months, I am completely pain free, walking long distances and even playing touch rugby with my sons. When we started my wife, Victoria discovered she has osteopenia, she has her next bone density scan in January to track her progress.
Do you recommend any other lifestyle changes alongside using OsteoStrong for maximum results?
Absolutely, OsteoStrong is one part of the puzzle to improved skeletal strength. We guide clients on exercises they can do at home, the right nutrition, lifestyle choices, and other biohacks to ensure they optimise their results.
How often do you need to do it to get results?
OsteoStrong sessions are limited to once a week, as we are triggering primary bone mineralisation this effect works for 5 to 6 days. The other wellness modalities can be used more often and will be determined by your individual health goals. Our teenage boys are using it to build their bone strength and for injury prevention in their respective sports, and in the process their strength has also more than doubled.
How can we start?
The best way to get started is to book a 1 hour OsteoStrong Discovery Session, which will give the full experience, as well as knowledge of the science and studies, meet the team and learn about the other wellness therapies available. There is an exciting new year special offer in January to save 30% for new memberships in January
