Jones Britain

The vision

In a large space, in the middle of a converted barn, the homeowners were looking for a contemporary but traditionally inspired kitchen, with up-to-date functionality.  A working kitchen with a mass of storage, which is a warm and friendly room for family life and entertaining. They specifically wanted an element of curves and a breakfast bar.

The finished project

A bespoke hand-built and hand-painted kitchen, with Shaker-style panel doors, complemented by a mixture of Corian and granite worktops and featuring state-of-the-art Siemens and Caple appliances, complementing the Aga already in situ.

The framed cabinet doors and cream Aga, plus the dresser-style floor-to-ceiling cupboard and hand-painted finish, give the kitchen a traditional feeling, appropriate for the converted barn context.

The curved line of the cabinets facing out into the living space also adds a homely, country appeal. A contemporary edge is delivered via the matt black paint on the central island and contrasting white Corian work top, and the brushed steel knobs and handles, while the modern bar stools and steel pendant lights add an industrial touch.

The overall black and white colour scheme, combined with the wooden barn beams add up to one of the hottest trends in current kitchen design.

Bespoke kitchens from £40,000.

Neptune

The vision

The Suffolk kitchen has been updated, with this most classic of designs – the Shaker kitchen – pared back to give it a crisp contemporary uplift, that’s a blank canvas to build on with accessories and furnishings.

The range

New cabinets have been added, including countertop cupboards which create the sense of a larder. The full-height dresser-style cabinet has bifold doors, so they don’t protrude into the room space too much when opened. In-drawer and cabinet accessories allow customers to customise their storage, with spice racks, cutlery separators and wet stores, and hidden inner drawers, creating an extra level to store things like baking parchment.

The Charlecote island comes in a choice of options to be geared more towards entertaining, dining, or food preparation (or a bit of all three), combining drawers with spaces to tuck in bar stools, and in a range of sizes to suit different spaces.

The cabinetry is made from tulipwood, plywood and oak, with magnetic chrome catches and chrome drawer pulls.

Kitchens from £38,000.
